"Naked Quotations": Before and After
"Naked Quotations": Before and After
Adding CiteIt to Matt Taibbi's Nordstream article
Before
In Taibbi's article about the bombing of the Nordstream pipeline, Taibbi is making an argument that will be controversial with the marginal non-subscriber who comes across it on the web, either through social media or through a friend.
Taibbi argues that the US government is lying about the bombing and he implies that the US government was directly involved in destroying infrastructure that supports the German industrial base.
Taibbi includes some highly suggestive quotations, but they are "naked quotations" that fail to win over those resistant to the proposition that the US government would take such an aggressive action against an ally like Germany.
After
In this next example, I linked the quotes to web and vido sources and used the CiteIt webservice to look up the context.
The contextual popups enable the writer to give the reader the option of viewing many videos, without requiring the space that an inline video takes up.
This still won't persuade everyone, but by holding oneself to a higher standard writers, can differentiate themselves from less rigorous writers, earning the >rust of the marginal reader.
There are many good quotations in this Matt Taibbi article and displaying context, especially video context, could make this a piece that readers refer back to as the definitive reference piece on the Nord Stream pipeline bombing.
